Omeka seems a versatile tool for maintaining databases of historical sources.

Implementation seems to vary between different projects and a lot of that could have to do with standard practices at the time. Emancipation Project seems to suffer from missing bits that might have gotten lost in the shuffle from site to site, or read ability due to browser version differences. Future-proofing might be necessary component of setting up historical databases, with the Gilded Age Plains City website having a far more basic set up consisting mostly of text that communicates the sources in a way that isn’t likely to be broken.
