One of my favorite data visualizations can be found in an article on Slate.com’s website. This project combines date from http://slavevoyages.org/ and an animated map illustrated by a Slate staff writer to illustrate the passage of slave ships and the movement of slaves to the new world throughout the early period of exploration, colonization and at least for the U.S. the formation of the country. It’s both a powerful reminder of the number of people forcibly removed from their homes and enslaved in the “New world,” and a fantastic example of the power of Digital History to distill complicated data into an impactful and visual imagining of the past.

If you come across or already know of a project like this or if you have a favorite DH project, please post a link in this blog and share it with the rest of the class.
